Easy Tarte Tatin

There in nothing more comforting on a cold fall evening than than a warm upside-down apple pie with a great big dollop of ice cream. All the better if the recipe's that easy!


50g butter
100g white sugar
6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
One ready-made pie crust


Preheat the oven to 400F.

Melt the butter in an ovenproof 10 inch frying pan. Add the sugar and let it cook on medium heat until it melts and turns to a nice caramel colour. Take the pan off the heat and place the apple slices in the caramel in a nice pattern (watch your fingers, it's very hot!).

Cover the apples with the pie crust, make a few holes to let the steam out and then pop the pan into the oven for 30 minutes.

Once ready, leave the tart to rest for 5 minutes, then place a plate over the pan and carefully turn it over, being careful not to spill over the hot apple-toffee sauce over. Serve hot with a scoop of ice cream...lovely!
